At Swiss Plastic Pipe Recycling (SPPR), we are committed to a sustainable future. We collect and recycle used plastic pipes and sections. So far, PE, PP and PVC pipes from civil engineering have been collected as part of the project. We are working to ensure that other types of pipe from building construction can also be recycled in the future. You can find all practical information about the collection here
Take-back system for plastic pipes
Every year, an estimated 85,000 tons of plastic pipes are used in building construction and civil engineering in Switzerland. The majority of these pipes can be used for 50 to 100 years. Nevertheless, there is a need for action: sections that make up around 3-5 percent of annual consumption, or around 3,500 tons, can be collected and reused. Pipes from dismantling can also be suitable for recycling if they still meet today's requirements.
In order to be able to offer a comprehensive take-back system, practical collection instructions, efficient logistics and processing options for the pipes are required - this is where SPPR comes in. The Association of Swiss Plastic Recyclers(VSPR) has launched the "Swiss Plastic Pipe Recycling (SPPR)" project together with the Association of Plastic Pipes and Pipe Components(VKR). This project is supported by many players in the pipe value chain.
The SPPR project has also been certified by ecobau as an ecoProducts association solution "Recycling". This confirms that the project meets the requirements for a sustainable circular economy and makes a concrete contribution to conserving resources in the Swiss construction industry.
circular economy
At Swiss Plastic Pipe Recycling (SPPR), we are consistently committed to the circular economy. We want to use resources more efficiently and minimize waste and the incineration of valuable plastics. Recycling one tonne of plastic pipes can save 2.5-3 tons of CO2 - the equivalent of a car journey from Lisbon to Beijing.
Use of plastic pipes
Plastic pipes play a decisive role in the supply of water, electricity, gas, heat and the disposal of waste water. The areas of application differ in civil engineering and building construction: In civil engineering, they are used to supply residential and industrial areas, while in structural engineering they are used for distribution within buildings. Depending on the area of application, different types and diameters of plastic pipes are used. Demanding standards ensure a service life of 50 to 100 years for plastic pipes.
